EdTech Publication

Every day, we are surrounded by technology. This technology can be used to communicate and collaborate with others in a personal, educational, or career setting. Most tools in the educational setting are geared towards mastery of content, but there are others out there that allow you to share your voice. Throughout the course of my EdTech Publication class, I was presented with a variety of new digital tools to use and a news ways to collaborate with my peers.

One digital tool we collaborated on was creating a podcast. I worked with my core group, Naima Bagot, Herman Bibbs, and Rosa Fuentes, and we held zoom sessions to create two different podcast episodes. On the first episode, we had a conversation around Influencer: The Science of Leading Change by David Maxfield, Joseph Grenny, Kerry Patterson, Al Switzler, Ron McMillan (2013). In the book, there are six sources of influence that are mentioned to help make changes in an organization. We described each of the six sources of influence in detail and talked about how we connected with them. The second podcast episode is centered around The 4 Disciplines of Execution: Achieving Your Wildly Important Goals by Chris McChesney, Jim Huling, and Sean Covey (2016). This episode felt like it went a bit smoother than the first one as we started to get a little more comfortable recording ourselves. We talked about the four different disciplines referenced in the book and how they applied to our own lives. This podcast was structured more like a book talk, and it felt like a much more natural delivery.

I really enjoyed creating the podcasts and would like to incorporate it into my own classroom soon. Having students work together to have conversations in a podcast setting will help solidify learning in my class. It would also be a great way to incorporate the outside world into our classroom by sharing these podcasts with the community.

Another way we collaborated with our peers in this class was through writing an article for possible publication and it’s peer review. For the article, Naima Bagot and I worked together creating an article geared towards setting up ePortfolios, which is the topic of both our Innovation Plans. After writing the rough draft, Naima and I worked with Nicole Bright and Sabine Mixon to peer review and get feedback for our article’s final draft. We created a rubric to score each others’ rough drafts and added helpful comments to the document itself. Exchanging articles for a peer review was really helpful in having fresh eyes look at your work. I also appreciated the opportunity to work with a few new classmates and getting to know them better. Naima and I are working on making these suggested changes and will be submitting our final draft to eLearn Magazine for possible publication.

Ultimately, in this class, I got the opportunity to collaborate with new and familiar classmates on multiple projects, and I was able to learn and practice with a new media tool. I look forward to learning about more digital and media tools in the future that I can incorporate into my education and career.
