January Book Reviews

Influencer: The New Science of Leading Change by Joseph Grenny & Kerry Patterson – I read this book as part of the curriculum for my classes at Lamar University. It focuses on creating change in your organization, and what the key steps are to make this change ‘stick’ and be successful. This was a pretty easy read and had some really useful information.

Rock, Paper, Scissors by Alice Feeney – This book!!!! The only 5 star rating I gave this month! I really enjoy books where you are trying to figure out how the characters are connected throughout the book. This book had the right suspense and an ending that I did NOT see coming at all!! I did try to recommend this book to a friend, and she said it was a little on the dark side for her, but I didn’t get those vibes at all. I highly recommend!

The Wives by Tarryn Fisher– Ok, this book…This book is about a polygamous husband told from the point of view of one of his wives. In the beginning, the book was building very nicely with the characters and plot, but then about halfway through, I felt like it went off track! The second half of the book seemed to be all over the place, and the ending was very strange. I do have to give it props, though, because I still wanted to read it through to find out what happened, just not one of my favs!

Reckless Girls by Rachel Hawkins – I picked this book up right as it was released because I loved Rachel Hawkins’ first adult novel, The Wife Upstairs. I do have to say I was disappointed with this book. It didn’t really seem to develop the characters and the ending was just ehh. I was hoping for more suspense where you couldn’t really figure out what happened, but this just wasn’t it for me.

The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood – I had REALLY high hopes for this book, and it did not disappoint! I saw this book was getting 5 stars all over Instagram. People were saying it was one of their all-time favorite books, so I had to see for myself! I don’t know if it was because I read it during the time I had COVID and the state of mind I was in, but it didn’t catch my attention from the get-go. I still gave it 4.5 stars though, because I absolutely loved the characters and their interactions!

Punk 57 by Penelope Douglas – I saw this author mentioned on Tik Tok and Instagram her books, so I had to see what it was about! I do have to say, I would not recommend for anyone under 18, even though the story is about high school students. It has a very high level of spice, but I did also enjoy the story line as well. This was a fairly easy read and I finished within a day!
